Today’s Nail of the Day features the second Max Factor Nail Polish that I won in Thoughts in Little Boxes’ giveaway a couple of months ago – the Max Effect Mini in ‘Intense Plum’.

The polish has a nice formula which is smooth and creamy and applies evenly, but it isn’t the easiest to apply as the lid is quite narrow and difficult to grip, and the brush is small and stubby so it takes a fair few sweeps of the brush to apply one coat.  Having said that, you soon get the hang of it and it only takes two coats for completely opaque coverage.  I found that the polish dried quite quickly too, but I’m slightly disappointed with its staying power.  Just 24 hours after applying it, it has already chipped on a couple of my nails and is showing wear at the tips on the rest.

‘Intense Plum’ is a rather apt name for this shade.  It’s reddy purple with a creme finish and looks very deep in all lights, but it has a bright pink tinge in natural light, and a hint of brown indoors.  I have to say, I did think this would have a bolder purple edge to it than it has, but I still like the colour.  It’s a great classic shade to wear in the evening, as it is very elegant and would look amazing paired with a gorgeous dress.

What do you think of this Max Effect Mini?
