NOTD: Models Own Nail Polish in ‘Pearly Queen’
4Today’s Nail of the Day is another from my recent nail varnish haul, Models Own Nail Polish in ‘Pearly Queen’.
This shade is a beautiful opalescent cream which shines baby pink and mint green in the sun, just like a real pearl! My photographs really don’t do the delicate hues justice. I usually go for bright, bold coloured varnishes over pale, pastel tones, but this one really is stunning so I thought I’d make an exception for today.
The varnish is a nice consistency – smooth and thick without being gloopy. I really like Models Own brushes as they are just the right size for me, so are easily controlled and make very little mess. I am wearing three coats of ‘Pearly Queen’ in my swatch as I found that, though it went on evenly, one or two coats left the coverage quite streaky, so I painted on one more for good measure which improved the overall look.
The varnish dries fairly quickly – quite impressively I was outside taking photographs about 5 minutes after I’d applied it, and as you can see, it didn’t smudge! Though I can’t yet comment on how long it lasts on fingernails, I’ve been wearing ‘Pearly Queen’ on my toes since Wednesday and it still looks good as new! Hopefully it’ll look just as nice on my fingers in a few days time (if I don’t change my varnish before then, that is).
Models Own polishes retail for £5 per bottle, 3 for £12, 5 for £18, or in special £20 box sets on their website, and are also for sale in Boots stores across the UK. I personally think they are excellent value as the bottles are all 14ml, so you get a lot of great quality nail varnish for your money! I have the Beetlejuice set (I got it for my birthday) and a few other Models Own polishes which I will review in the not too distant future. I also want to try their purple and blue glittery ‘Disco Mix’.
Which is your favourite Models Own shade?

The piece is made of cream and beige pearl look beads with silver coloured accents. The bracelet adds a touch of feminine class to any outfit and I wear it a lot, more than any of my other bracelets in fact. I get a lot of compliments on it!

Evening Eye Look featuring MUA Felt Liner and Eyeshadow (Shade 9 Pearl)
2Last night, my other half took me for a gorgeous vegetarian meal at my favourite restaurant, The Good Earth. The meal was an early birthday/Valentine’s celebration and we were treated to 5 fabulous gourmet courses! I decided to wear my new cute purple dress and wanted to create an evening eye look to match, and this is what I came up with…
And these were the products I used:
MUA Eye Shadow in Shade 9 Pearl
Avon Glimmerstick Eye Liner in Black
MUA Extreme Felt Eyeliner in Black
Avon Super Magnify Mascara in Black
I purchased the two MUA products a few days ago from Superdrug, and as promised here, I will now let you know what I think of them…
MUA Eye Shadow Shade 9 Pearl
As you can see from the above photographs, MUA’s Shade 9 is a fantastic shade of purple. What I love about this shade is that, though the purple has pinky tones, it also has prominent flecks of shimmery blue throughout. In the right light, the multi-tones make for a breathtaking, almost peacock-like look.
The shadow is not as heavily pigmented as some more expensive products, but at least that means you can go for a simple, daytime look if you want to. If you build up layers of the eyeshadow, like I did last night, you can create an intense, deep colour which really catches the light.
I have to say, this eyeshadow lasts a very long time. I wore it all night and it stayed put and didn’t gather in the creases, rather, it looked exactly the same when I got home as it did when I went out!
To sum this eyeshadow up in one word: Stunning.
MUA Felt Eyeliner Pen in Black
This eyeliner applies wet like a liquid eyeliner, but is a lot easier to put on as it comes in a handy felt pen format. The fine brush/nib is simple to use and the thickness of the line can be controlled without much effort.
The liner glides on smoothly and evenly, meaning mistakes are avoidable, and you can quickly build up solid lines for a dramatic 60s look.
As with the eyeshadow, the eyeliner stays put and doesn’t smudge, so your lines stay wonderfully defined all evening. The only issue I had with the felt liner is that it was slightly stubborn and didn’t want to budge when I was removing it, but with a bit of patience it will be gone in no time.
A fantastic product overall, and great for the daytime too. In fact, I’m wearing simple black lines right now and it looks fab!
