What I Wore: Birthday Celebration with Friends

3

Next Thursday (Valentine’s Day) is my birthday, and yesterday I went out with four of my closest friends for an early celebration meal.  We went to Prezzo for pizza and cheesecake, and had a good old natter, as we always do!  I decided to dress down for the evening as we weren’t doing anything too fancy, but I managed to combine polka dots, skulls and bright lips – three of my favourite things!

This is the make up look I went for (apologies for the badly lit photos!)…

Tangle Teezer Compact Styler

15

I have long, straight hair, but despite my efforts to keep it looking sleek and smooth, it always tangles into straggly knots at the first sight of water, wind or my pillow!  I have tried many things over the years to keep it neat and tangle-free, and after experimentation with various hair products and brushes, I think I finally have the answer…  The Tangle Teezer!

I have heard many good things about Tangle Teezer over time, so when I was kindly gifted a Tangle Teezer Compact Styler by LookFantastic a few weeks ago, I was keen to give it a try.  The Compact Styler is a smaller version of the original Tangle Teezer, so it is the perfect size to carry in your handbag or overnight bag for gorgeous hair on the go.  The Teezer I received is Gold Rush – a stunning metallic gold colour on top and black on the bottom, and it is ergonomically shaped to fit snug into the palm of your hand for easy grip and use.  It also features a secure click-on cover to protect the brush teeth whilst you’re out and about.

The teeth of the brush are soft and pliable, but also extremely strong, so they flex to the shape of your head for comfortable brushing.  As you can see in the picture, they alternate in length, with every other row having longer teeth which burrow deep in to your hair to reach every tangle with ease!  The styler can be used on both wet and dry hair, and the results you get really are quite incredible.  I mostly use this on dry hair throughout the day, but it’s great for sorting out post-shower tangles too.

As I’m sure many of you know, brushing out tangles can be painful, and what makes the Tangle Teezer special is that it is absolutely painless!  Every time I use it I am amazed at how easily it moves through my hair without pulling or tugging, whilst effortlessly removing all  tangles, leaving nothing but beautifully soft locks behind.  And it’s quick too!  It also works on tough tangles…  My fiancé has very curly hair which knots up easily into tiny little dreadlocks.  I managed to convince him to let me have a go at his hair with the Tangle Teezer, and though I wasn’t expecting positive results (metal combs have failed to detangle his hair in the past), I was astonished to find that it works just as well on his hair as it does on mine!  He didn’t moan about it hurting much either, which has to be a good sign!

Just to give you an idea of the results the Tangle Teezer can give, here are some pictures of my hair before and after a quick brush…

Pretty good, right?

I don’t think I could be without a Tangle Teezer now I’ve tried it.  It’s a quick and effective way to give hair a smooth appearance and long-lasting shine in just a few painless brush strokes.  What’s not to love?  I might even invest in the larger size to keep at home, so I can carry this little Compact with me at all times!

If you like the look of the Tangle Teezer Compact Styler, it is available to buy now from LookFantastic.com, and costs an affordable £12.25.  You can check out their full range of Tangle Teezers here!  LookFantastic offer FREE worldwide delivery on all orders too, which is a fanastic deal.

Sleek Pout Paint in ‘Port’

6

For ages I was slightly unimaginative with my choice of lip products.  I stuck to the same couple of glosses and lipsticks and didn’t look much further than that.  However, highly pigmented lip paints soon came onto my radar and I spent months lusting after Obsessive Compulsive’s Lip Tars.  OCC’s range of shades is amazing, but I couldn’t quite justify spending money on a product that I hadn’t swatched, just in case it didn’t suit me or wasn’t that great.  That’s when I decided to do some research and I discovered that Sleek have their own range of Pout Paints which, according to reviews, are just as good as OCC’s, but a lot cheaper (£4.99 compared to $14.00).  So, I took myself down to Superdrug to sample the different Pout Paints, and I treated myself to this gorgeous colour, ‘Port’.  I know I’m a bit slow off the mark with this review as Pout Paint has been around for ages now, but I thought I’d share my thoughts anyway.

Sleek Pout Paints come in diddy little 8ml tubes, but don’t be fooled by their size.  At first, I thought they were a bit small, but you really only need a TINY amount to cover both lips.  One tube will last you for absolutely ages I’d imagine… years probably!  As you can see in the picture, there is no applicator with this so you must must MUST use a lip brush to apply the paint.  Remember, a lip paint is NOT a lip gloss – squeeze this on to your lips and it would get messy haha.  To apply, I squeezed the smallest blob onto the back of my hand and used a Sally Hansen lip brush to ‘paint’ my lips.  Because the paint is so pigmented, you have to make sure you’re careful with the painting.  I got a bit on my chin and it took ages and a lot of rubbing to get it off!

‘Port’ is a deep pink with undertones of purple.  I was amazed by how bold the colour comes up on your lips from such a small amount of product – it really does ‘pop’ and it is absolutely beautiful.  Unlike a lot of staining products, I found the Pout Paint really creamy and moisturising.  Even when it dried, it didn’t dry out my lips, but left them smooth and supple and remained shiny in appearance.

One of the best things about Sleek’s Pout Paint is how long it lasts.  After applying it, I tried to wash the excess off of my hand and, even though it was still a bit wet, it stained my skin slightly.  This may sound like a bad thing, but in my eyes it was a good sign as it suggested it would also last on the lips.  And believe me, it does.  It stayed on for hours (until I removed it) and looked just as bright and slick – very impressive!

Removing the Pout Paint took me quite a while, I’ll admit.  I tried dry tissue and wet tissue at first, but that just smudged it around my face a bit, so I decided to try something a bit stronger.  As my regular readers will know, I recently received a packet of Kleenex Eye Make-Up Removal Wipes.  I wasn’t that impressed with them at first, but I used one to remove the paint and my opinion has now changed!  They removed the paint in a few wipes, and all the smudges, and left my lips clean and soft.  I know the wipes are meant for eyes, but they are unscented so don’t taste bad and are actually quite moisturising.  I’ll be saving the rest of the wipes purely for removing Sleek Pout Paint.

It is safe to say that I am in love with Sleek Pout Paint.  It is the best stain product that I have ever used and I love the idea of mixing shades to create new, stunning colours.  I think I’ll have to expand my collection of Pout Paints in the future!
