Urban Decay Eyeshadow in Snakebite

8

If there’s one thing I’ve noticed in the world of beauty blogging it’s that Urban Decay eyeshadow palettes are extremely popular, so much so that reviews of the palettes seem to take precedent over the brand’s single eyeshadows.  So, when Lookfantastic gave me the opportunity to try an Urban Decay eyeshadow, I was intrigued to find out whether bloggers are missing out on a little gem in choosing palettes over singles.

??????????????????????

Urban Decay’s range of eyeshadows features 68 shades in every colour you can imagine, all of which have fun, creative names.  From nudes and browns, to blues, pinks, purples and even black, there’s something for everybody, so if the combined shades in the palettes aren’t for you, you can pick and choose the singles and build up a personalised collection of colours.

The shade I received is called Snakebite – a bronze brown with a slight shimmer which is ideal for day wear on its own.

I’m a sucker for beautiful packaging (as long as the product inside lives up to it), and Urban Decay’s new design eyeshadows are definitely pleasant to look at.  The shadow comes encased in a silver-toned circular pot which looks very chic, and is apparently inspired by NYC subway tokens – a brilliant cultural touch.  Even the textured purple box is lovely!

The eyeshadow itself has a velvety soft feel which translates onto the skin for a flawless, smooth finish.  When I first used Snakebite I was slightly worried that my eyeshadow brush wasn’t picking up much of the product, but when I applied it I was pleasantly surprised.  The eyeshadow is very highly pigmented, so what looked like a little went a very long way, and it didn’t take much to build up decent coverage.

The only issue I have with the eyeshadow is that the powder sits quite loosely on the brush, meaning it makes quite a mess with the excess falling onto my cheeks during application.  However, this is easily sorted with a quick sweep of a spare clean brush!

Here’s how the eyeshadow looks on the skin…

Perhaps the biggest test of a good eyeshadow is how long it lasts, and Urban Decay’s eyeshadow lasts an impressively long time.  The first time I wore Snakebite I wore it without an eyelid primer, yet it still lasted all afternoon with no fading, and it didn’t gather in the creases or smudge at all.  I just love that you can wear this eyeshadow without having to worry about touching it up throughout the day!

Overall, from packaging to product this little eyeshadow oozes quality and I really, really like it.  If you love the Urban Decay palettes then I’d highly recommend you try the singles too!  You can find the full range of Urban Decay’s gorgeous little eyeshadows here at Lookfantastic, and they cost £14.00 each.

Ciate Mini Mani Month Round-Up: Part 4

0

Evening all,

Are you ready for Christmas yet?  I am!  This month has gone really quickly, and I have now opened all 24 doors of my Ciate Mini Mani Month advent calendar.  This week has been my favourite week of all – Ciate really did save the best until last in my eyes!  Here are the final six minis in all their glory… (All pictures are clickable for a closer look.)

Day 19 – Cookies and Cream

O

I’m sure I’ve said many times before that I’m not really a fan of nude shades, but I have made an exception for this one.  Cookies and Cream is a creamy nude beige colour, and it looks so clean and sophisticated on the nail.  The above photo shows two coats of varnish, and as you can see the coverage isn’t completely opaque, but three coats would do it.  A gorgeous neutral shade, perfect for the office!

Day 20 – Magic Carpet

O

Magic Carpet is the second exclusive shade to the Mini Mani Month, and it is one of my absolute favourites in the whole calendar.  The varnish is a beautiful dark magenta, and it is made up of large and micro glitter flecks.  It took three coats of Magic Carpet over two coats of Cookies and Cream to achieve the above look, which is rather a lot of varnish, and in all honesty it didn’t take to my nails very well.  The glitter didn’t dry that quickly, and it seemed to melt the colour underneath slightly so it peeled off.  I think I’ll use this as a thinner top coat in the future, or just wait a lot longer for it to dry.

Day 21 – Fade to Greige

O

I absolutely adore Fade to Greige.  It is a very dark grey with a violet undertone, which I think would compliment any colour.  The formula is lovely and creamy too, so it is a pleasure to apply and dries very quickly.  Another classy, sophisticated shade, perfect for versatile every day wear.

Day 22 – Sundance Caviar Pearls

O

Unfortunately, I haven’t had time to try these Sundance Caviar Pearls yet, but I imagine they’ll have the same easy application and lasting power of the other pearls in the calendar.  Sundance is made up of yellowy gold and bright blue beads, with a few flecks of gold glitter scattered throughout.  I must say, I am a caviar manicure convert after trying Ciate’s Mini pots, but this shade is probably my least favourite of the four in the calendar.

Day 23 – Mojito and Day 24 – Enchanted Rose

O

The last two days of the Mini Mani Month featured two Christmassy shades – green and red.  Day 23 gave me Mojito, a creamy lime green which forms the base of my holly nail art!  It applies like a dream and even, opaque coverage takes just two coats.  Mojito is actually a lot less fluorescent than it looks in the photo, which is a positive thing in my opinion as there is definitely such a thing as being too bright!

Today’s shade, the final shade in the box, was the third exclusive shade – Enchanted Rose – a beautiful red glitter varnish.  Enchanted Rose forms the berries of my holly nail art, and it has a very sparkly finish, perfect for Christmas day.  Unlike some glitters, it isn’t overly sheer, so it wouldn’t take much to build up a bold, bright glitter look.  Another winner!

And to finish, here is a picture of two coats of Day 6 shade, Angel Wings, which I didn’t have time to swatch in Part 1…

O

Overall, I have been extremely pleased with the Ciate Mini Mani Month.  The range of colours and finishes in the set is fantastic, and it was definitely worth every penny.  I will be using all of these a lot in the future, I imagine!  I’m looking forward to trying some more nail art designs with them.

That’s it from me for today…  I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas day tomorrow, full of love and laughter!

6 Fashion Trends I Wish Would Fizzle Out

39

I’m not usually one for caring about what other people are wearing, but this year there seems to have been an influx of fashion trends which, for various reasons, I find really irritating!  I have tried my best to ignore them, but they are everywhere, and have been for months now.  My sister backs me up on most of these too, so I don’t think it’s just me being irrational.  So, without further ado, here are six fashion trends I wish would fizzle out…

1. Toms Shoes

There’s something about Toms shoes that disturbs me, especially when worn by a man and paired with ankle grazers, and it’s the ability to see the veins on top of the feet and, as my sister’s boyfriend put it, ‘the outline of the big toe’.  I’m funny about feet and I have the same issue with flip flops – I just don’t want to see those shapes, it’s obscene!  The fold in the canvas at the toe looks ridiculous too, like a pair of slippers or something.  Not only that, Toms are horrifically impractical and an absolute rip off.  £35 for a piece of canvas which, quite frankly, won’t last 5 minutes in the UK, what with all the rain.  I don’t think so…

2. Moustache Print

At first I thought the trend for moustache print was quite quirky, but  now that it’s everywhere it has lost its charm rather quickly.  Okay, it’s alright for Movember, but it’s gone a bit overboard now.  Last week I saw a mannequin in a shop dressed in moustache leggings, a moustache top and a moustache cardigan – a bit heavy on the moustache methinks!  I just don’t get it, I mean, you wouldn’t walk round with a beard or a goatee emblazoned across your chest, so why a moustache?

3. Nerd Glasses

Whenever I’m in town I seem to be surrounded by teenage girls wearing nerd glasses.  It wouldn’t be so bad if they actually needed them for poor eyesight, but most of the glasses I see don’t even have lenses in!  I’m sorry, but it’s not cute and it’s not clever – the only person that can pull them off in my eyes is Johnny Depp, so please let’s all leave him to it.

4. Tiny Shorts

It’s now almost winter, the country is flooding and it’s freezing cold, yet there are STILL people walking round in tiny shorts, so short that they might as well be denim underwear.  Chafing and potential hypothermia are not good for your health, so girls, for your own good please stop wearing them!

5. Leggings as Trousers

Don’t get me wrong, I love leggings and I wear them myself with long tops or short dresses, but leggings should not be worn as trousers.  They’re in the same realm as tights I reckon, not skinny jeans.  There seems to be a trend at the minute for wearing leggings with a thong underneath, and a short top and jacket on top…  Believe me when I say that clearly seeing someone’s bum cheeks through stretched leggings is not a pretty sight!

6. Nude Shades

I don’t actually have an issue with nude shades – I quite like peaches, creams and pale pinks, they just don’t suit my skin tone.  I am a big lover of colour, so whilst this trend for nude tones exists, I am finding it extremely difficult to find new clothes in colours I want to wear.  Boo hoo.

So, there you have it, six fashion trends which I hope will disappear soon!  Sorry if this post is especially ranty – it’s meant to be a bit of fun and isn’t intended to offend!

Which fashion trend would you love to see fizzle out?  Do you disagree and think any of these trends should be here to stay?
