NOTD: Avon Colortrend Nail Enamel in ‘Violet Freeze’
4I know, I know, this is my second nail post in a row, but I just couldn’t resist sharing this beautiful shade with you all! I received this Colortrend Nail Enamel in my Avon delivery on Tuesday and as soon as I saw it I thought it was so pretty.
In the brochure and online the varnish is called ‘Violet Freeze’, but for some strange reason it says ‘Very Violet’ on all its packaging. I’m not entirely sure what its real name is, but I’m going to go with ‘Violet Freeze’ as it is an icy blue shade with a multi-tonal tinge of pinky purple. It’s by no means a dupe, but think Models Own ‘Aqua Violet’ or ‘Indian Ocean’. As you would expect of a multi-tonal nail varnish, the colour changes in different lights… In inside light, the blue is lovely and reminds me of the colour of the Disney Cinderella’s dress, but outside is where you see the full beauty of it. The violet hues really come through and alter in depth depending on how you look at your nails. I just can’t put into words how stunning it really is!
The varnish is very sheer – to achieve the coverage seen above I had to apply three coats, and you can still see the white tips of my nails through it. It was no fuss to apply though… It covered my nails evenly with no streakiness as the formula is very cooperative, and it dried impressively quickly. The Colortrend nail enamels have DEFINITELY improved since the range was overhauled! It hasn’t chipped yet either which is always good.
All of the Colortrend Nail Enamels are currently on offer for £2.50 each in Brochure 16 (page 75 if you’re interested), which is a great price for such a lovely shade. Even their usual price is a snip at just £3.
What do you think of this shade? Would you wear it?

Tried and Tested: Avon’s NEW Colortrend Range
6After years of sticking with simple black and pink packaging, Avon have just had a complete overhaul of their Colortrend range. The old lipsticks, glosses, eyeshadows and nail enamels have been scrapped and replaced with a bigger and brighter selection of shades, and everything else has also been spruced up with a fresh look. I received a few items from the new range with my last Avon order, and this is what they look like…
Pictured above, in no particular order, you can see:
- Color Me Pretty Suede Effect Nail Enamel in ‘Soft Violet’
- Color Me Pretty Nail Enamel in ‘Velour’
- Pencil Play Eyeliner in ‘Turquoise’
- Plump Out Mascara in ‘Black’
- Read My Lips Lip Gloss in ‘Clear’
- Read My Lips Lip Gloss in ‘Fluorescent Pink’
- Kiss ‘n’ Go Lipstick in ‘Doll Pink’
Now, I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not a fan of white plastic products. White iPhones, white Wii consoles, white kitchen equipment all look slightly tacky in my eyes, so at first I wasn’t best pleased to see that Avon had replaced the traditional Colortrend black with white. However, when I saw the boxes and wrappers that everything came in, I changed my mind slightly. I love the colours, shapes and fonts that have been used, and I think they offset the white nicely so you hardly even notice it in the end. The Colortrend range is aimed at younger Avon users, and I definitely think the new look gives the products a more young, lighthearted and fun image than they had before, so in that respect the overhaul has been successful!
But what about the products themselves? Have they been improved? Well, I haven’t yet tried a lot of them (some of the items pictured above were for my customers) so I can’t comment on everything, but I have tried the Suede Effect Nail Enamel and Read My Lips Lip Gloss, so I will now give my thoughts on those…
Color Me Pretty Suede Effect Nail Enamel in ‘Soft Violet’ (RRP £3)
‘Soft Violet’ is a rich purple with a silver shimmer running through it. It is also matte, which combined with the shimmer gives it that ‘suede’ look, as does the fact that it feels almost soft to the touch! I really like the colour and it is very different to Avon’s other purple matte varnish, which is good as I find it quite annoying when a company have two very similar shades!
The consistency of the varnish is excellent, and a definite improvement on the old, runny Colortrend varnishes. It sits comfortably in the middle of thick and thin so it applies smoothly, with no streaks, and you can achieve an opaque look in just two coats, instead of the three or four it took before.
The only thing I was disappointed with was how long the varnish lasts. Because it is matte, I couldn’t apply a top coat as all of my top coats are glossy, so it chipped within a day on several nails, and the ends showed wear very quickly.
Despite the chipping, I am in love with this nail varnish. It’s a breath of fresh air within the previously rather basic Colortrend nail enamel collection, and it is much better quality than I was expecting too. There are two other suede nail enamels available (a blue and a pink), and twelve other glossy nail enamels, including two ‘morph’ colours which look a bit like Models Own Beetljuice range. Now I know how good the formula is, I will definitely be getting some more! Starting with ‘Fuschia Feel’ and ‘Vixen’.
Read My Lips Lip Gloss in ‘Clear’ (RRP £3.75)
On its own.
Over lipstick.
Whilst browsing the last Avon brochure I realised that (shock horror) I didn’t actually own a clear lip gloss! That needed fixing pronto, so I ordered this one as it was on offer for only 99p. When I first opened the tube I thought the gloss smelt a bit funny and it put me off a little. I made my mum sniff it and she liked the smell, so I guess that one’s just down to personal taste. The gloss applies quite thickly, but it isn’t too sticky which makes up for it, and gives a nice shine to naked lips. As you can see, I also applied it over matte lipstick and it really made my lips stand out. It made the lipstick stay on a LOT longer than it does without gloss, which I wasn’t expecting so was an added bonus!
Overall, despite my initial reservations with the change of packaging, I am glad that Avon have given the Colortrend range a new lease of life. I was getting a bit bored of seeing the same few shades over and over again, so the new products have come as a breath of fresh air for me. The shades are bold and exciting and I can’t wait to see and try more of them!

NOTD: BYS Glow in the Dark Top Coat
13After seeing a few blog posts recently about Julep’s glow in the dark nail varnish, I decided to see what glow in the dark nail products were available in the UK. I’ve always loved glow in the dark stuff and I even have glow in the dark stars stuck all over my bedroom ceiling, so I was excited about the prospect of having glow in the dark nails too! After a short search I came across this Glow in the Dark Top Coat by BYS on Amazon for just £2.25, so I ordered some so I could see for myself whether it actually works!
The product says to apply between 1 and 3 coats of top coat over your nail colour, and to allow the varnish to ‘charge’ in unnatural light to make it glow. So, I excitedly applied a base coat, two coats of MUA Shade 13 and then two coats of the glow in the dark top coat! This is what the top coat looks like over coloured nails. If you want to see what this shade looks without a top coat, you can see it here. I think the top coat makes it look a bit smoother and more yellowy, and it feels really nice to the touch, almost soft.
Once the top coat was dry (and it dried very quickly so I didn’t have long to wait) I let the fun begin! Firstly, I held my nails in the dark without ‘charging’ them to see whether they glow at all after being in normal light conditions, and unsurprisingly they didn’t glow much at all, but the bottle did say that! I then held my nails next to a bright light bulb for a minute or two, and then went back into the dark… And did they glow? Yes they bloody did! The effect is quite amazing – my nails were glowing a really bright yellowy green, much to mine and my mum’s delight, and the glow lasted for a very long time. I surprised my fiancé with them at night and they didn’t stop glowing for hours. I have to admit, that was slightly annoying as it was difficult to get to sleep with my fingers lighting up, so I had to hide my hands under the pillow and quilt haha.
I tried to get some photos of my nails glowing but it was a very difficult task indeed! Not one of my cameras could pick the glow up very well, so the nail photo isn’t a true representation of how good the glow is, but the one of the bottle gives you a better idea…
I really love this product – it’s such fun and it doesn’t cost much at all. I’m really glad I bought some because I like surprising people with my glowing nails! What do you think? Would you wear glow in the dark nails?

NOTD: Avon Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel in ‘Cosmic Blue’
10Hello everyone,
As some of you may recall, last month I entered my Very Hungry Caterpillar Nail Art into Avon’s ‘Perfectly Polished’ nail art competition. Though I didn’t win the main prize, I was lucky enough to be chosen from hundreds of entries to win a bottle of Avon’s new Nailwear Pro+ Nail Enamel! I won because the judges chose my design as one of the best 50 entered, which I’m very happy about
Avon’s Nailwear Pro+ range features a wide range of stunning shades and boasts an improved formula to the old Nailwear Pro range. I have quite a few Nailwear Pro varnishes which I quite like, so I was looking forward to seeing whether the Pro+ really is better. The shade I was sent as my prize is ‘Cosmic Blue’.
In the bottle, ‘Cosmic Blue’ looks quite similar to the old Nailwear shade ‘Blue Shock’, just slightly darker. ‘Blue Shock’ was VERY watery in consistency and it took about four coats to achieve an opaque look with it, so I was a bit worried this would be the same, however, it isn’t! When I first applied ‘Cosmic Blue’ I did think it was quite thin, but it only took two coats for it to be completely opaque. So obviously the formula has been improved! I guess the thin consistency doesn’t matter too much as it stops it going gloopy and it spreads easily. At first I kept wiping too much off the brush just in case it dripped, meaning it wasn’t holding enough paint to cover one nail, but that was soon fixed as my confidence in the product grew
As you can see, the ‘Cosmic Blue’ colour is VERY striking! I absolutely adore it. Inside the house it looks like a luscious royal blue, which is lovely in itself, but once you get outside it just explodes with aquatic depth and shimmer – I just can’t take my eyes off it. In fact, I think it’s now my favourite blue nail varnish out of all the blues that I own, and I own a few.
The nail enamel dries fairly quickly too. I’ll admit, it’s not the fastest (the first time I applied it I smudged it as I started getting changed before it had fully dried), but it dries a LOT quicker than most nail varnishes I’ve tried, especially once your top coat is applied. From what I can tell it lasts a while too. So far it hasn’t chipped at all, which is also testament to the improved formula as the old Nailwear Pro would chip early on. Give it a few days though and I’ll let you know what it looks like then haha.
Basically, it is really obvious to me after trying this that Avon have indeed improved their nail enamel formula, and the colours have far more depth to them now than they used to. Bravo, Avon!
Will you be trying the new Nailwear Pro+?
