A few weeks ago the Highcross in Leicester ran a two-day Spring Beauty Fix event, so I headed down on the Saturday to see what was going on.
I decided to get there early so I could appreciate the event before the centre got really busy, and already there was a buzz around what the Beauty Fix had to offer. There were several displays featuring this season’s fashion trends, with a colour consultant on hand to advise on the best colours to suit your style throughout Spring. I had a quick browse of the rails and spotted a cute dress covered in polka dots, which happens to be my favourite print for clothing, so I’m hoping to see more dotty items in the shops soon!
Another stand which caught my eye was the Beauty Amnesty, which invited shoppers to discard five unwanted items of make-up, in exchange for a £10 gift card to be spent on beauty items that day. A great deal considering several brands were offering discounts, and brands such as Nails Inc, Urban Decay and Hotel Chocolat were all giving beauty advice during the event!
There were also many offers to be had on the day in stores, and several freebies up for grabs. Rituals and Decleor were offering complimentary skincare consultations, and Rituals, YSL and Clinique also had free samples and items to give away.
Whilst at the event I also managed to do a bit of shopping, and whilst browsing Debenhams’ beauty offerings I spotted Ghost’s Eclipse fragrance, which I decided to treat myself to. Ghost perfumes are my all-time favourites, and Eclipse’s light floral and fruity notes will be perfect for the coming warm months. I also headed over to H&M as I wanted a new dress, and managed to get a lovely grey number, as well as some cute mouse slippers.
Overall it was a fun day, and I’m looking forward to the next event that Highcross puts on, as they’re always enjoyable.
Autumn is my favourite time of year for so many reasons… the weather, the colours of the trees, Halloween, Bonfire Night, the cosy nights in, the homely cooking, and of course the fashion! So, when I found out that Leicester’s biggest shopping centre, Highcross, was putting on an Autumn Fashion Fix catwalk show, I booked my tickets straight away!
My mum and I headed into town this morning for the 11:30am show, and we were lucky enough to get front row seats. Everyone who’d booked seats also got a little goody bag which was nice.
The show itself was really enjoyable. There were six models in total, four female and two male, and the show was split into six scenes – The Cosmo Edit, Faux Fur, Tapestry Folk, Shades of Red, New Pastels, and Metallics. Every single scene featured some really gorgeous pieces, but the Metallics section was my favourite, as it mixed colours and textures that I love. Think leather biker jackets and chunky heels, mixed with gunmetal sequins.

I also filmed an Instagram video of the Shades of Red scene…
It was nice to see affordable, high street pieces on a catwalk, and a lot of this year’s trends and colours are right up my street. The soundtrack to the show was great too!
What do you think of this season’s fashion trends?
Since Christmas it has been January Sales galore, both on the high street and on the internet, and I (along with millions of other shoppers, I’m sure) couldn’t resist a browse. My main aim was to hunt out a couple of pairs of shoes suitable for Spring/Summer, as well as a few items of clothing. I prefer to relax with my family on Boxing Day, rather than go shopping, but on January 27th I braved it and went into town, but soon gave up as there were far, far too many people for my liking. So, that evening I sat down with my laptop, a box of chocolates and a cup of tea and browsed the web to my heart’s content. I must say, I wasn’t that impressed by the quality of the sales this year, but luckily I succeeded in my shoe and clothes buying mission! I managed to resist binging on make up and perfume gift sets in the Superdrug and Boots sales, but I did get a couple of beauty accessories.
Donnay Purple Canvas Ballet Pumps – £3.50 (£3.49 saving) – SportsDirect.com
Skechers Sunset Pink and Black Canvas Shoes – £20.00 (£14.99 saving) – SportsDirect.com
Dr Martens Aldgate Floral Canvas Shoes – £30.00 (£15.00 saving) – Dr Martens
Purple Metallic Manicure Set – £0.99p (saving unknown) – Superdrug
Unwind Cherry Stone Relaxation Pillow – £0.99p (saving unknown) – Superdrug
Purple Heart Knit Dress – £10.00 (£4.99 saving) – Store Twenty One
Blue Paisley Print Top – £5.00 (£4.99 saving) – Store Twenty One
A rather humble haul I know, but I managed to get everything I wanted! What did you get in the sales this year?
Just a heads up to my UK readers who might like a bargain or two… I recently discovered that B&M Stores are an unlikely place to find branded beauty products on a budget. It’s the kind of shop you expect to just sell furniture and garden stuff, but the one near me has a whole aisle of cut price cosmetics and toiletries. I went for a browse on Sunday and I picked up these two Sally Hansen Continuous Treatments for only £1.49 each! I’ve seen them retail in other shops for a lot more, sometimes around £6-£7, so you’re really saving quite a bit. I got the Base & Top Coat and the Time-Released Strength Formula. I’ve only tried the Strength Formula so far (and so far, so good!) but I’ll be reviewing both once I’ve given them a good go. I spotted several other brands in the shop too, including Maybelline, Nivea, Garnier and Lypsyl… You just have to keep an eye out!
Happy Bargain Shopping
Today I decided to go clothes shopping for the first time in a long time. The summer sales have been on for a while now so I wasn’t expecting to find anything amazing, but I did manage to get a few pieces that I really love! I didn’t come home with a lot, but that just means I can buy more next time 😉 In fact, despite going in quite a few shops, I only bought things from two (H&M and Primark). Anyway, here is what I bought – apologies for the rubbish pictures…
Strawberry Print Dress from H&M. Was £12.99, bought for £5.
Floral Bodycon Dress from H&M. Was £12.99, bought for £7.
Purple and Mustard Boob Tube from Primark. Was £3, bought for £1.
Dark Purple Skinny Jeans with Silver Belt from Primark. £11.
Turquoise Skinny Jeans with Gold Belt from Primark. £11.
In total, this haul cost £35, saving me about £16 which isn’t bad. Hopefully I’ll be going back for more in the week when the shops are less busy. What have you bought in the summer sales so far?
As I hadn’t been shopping for a few weeks, this morning I decided to head into town and treat myself to some new beauty products. I went straight to Superdrug as it has been my intention for a while to try some more MUA products, after being impressed by their Nail Varnish (my review of which can be found here). This is what I came out with…
From Left to Right:
- MUA Eye Shadow – Shade 9 Pearl (£1.00).
- MUA 3 in 1 Extreme Contour Angled Shadow Liner – Shade 8 Gun Metal (£1.50).
- MUA 3 in 1 Extreme Contour Eye Pen – Black (£1.50).
- MUA 3 in 1 Extreme Contour Angled Shadow Liner – Shade 6 Smoked Plum (£1.50).
- MUA Extreme Felt Eyeliner – Black (£2.00).
- Barry M Nail Paint – 303 Bright Purple (£2.99).
- MUA Blusher – Shade 2 (£1.00).
And here are some close-ups…
Superdrug are currently running an offer to get a FREE MUA 3 in 1 Liner with any MUA item purchased, hence why I have three! The offer runs until the 14th of February, so take advantage whilst you still can. I’m planning on nipping back into Superdrug to get some more at some point, as there are seven shades available!
Over the next few days, I am going to review each of my new items individually, starting with the Barry M nail paint tomorrow which I can’t wait to try! Make sure you come back to see what I have to say. Or why not subscribe/follow my blog so my posts come straight to your inbox? Just click on the ‘follow’ link to the right of the page.
Also, coming this evening, a review of Avon’s Planet Spa bath and massage oil.
