Valentine’s Gift Ideas: Love Hearts Tea Lights

0

Valentine’s Day is also my birthday, so happens to be one of my favourite days of the year. As soon as January comes around I start looking forward to that special day in the middle of February, as not only do I get to enjoy it, but it adds a bit of brightness to the gloomy winter for people everywhere! I’m also a firm believer that Valentine’s Day doesn’t have to be miserable for those who aren’t in a relationship, as it gives you the perfect excuse to treat yourself, or spend time with family or friends.

So, in celebration of Valentine’s Day, over the next week or so I’ll be bringing you my pick of the best, affordable Valentine’s gifts – perfect for your loved one or even for yourself!  Today’s pick is this adorable little set of Love Hearts Tea Lights, available from It’s A Wot.

Since I moved out of my mum’s house and in with my fiancé, I’ve become more and more interested in interior design, and making my home look pretty, and these tea lights help me do just that.  They come beautifully wrapped in a Love Hearts wrapper, so they look like a super-sized tube of sweets, and inside you get six tea lights, each of which comes in a sturdy plastic holder.

The tea lights come in three colours – pink, purple and blue – with two of each in the pack, and they all have an iconic Love Hearts message printed on top.  The pink ones say “Kiss Me”, the purple ones say “Love Me”, and the blue ones say “Hug Me”.

Despite their small size, the tea lights burn really well.  I had them on for several hours the other evening and the flame hardly made a dent in the wax, and they don’t produce much smoke, just a steady flame.  My only issue with the candles is that they aren’t scented, but it’s not a deal breaker and I still think they’re lovely.

At just £1.84 for a set of six, these tea lights would make an ideal Valentine ’s Day ‘stocking filler’ for someone who loves cute and quirky little house gifts.  They’d also be great for adding a touch of romance to your Valentine’s evening, or even just to help you unwind and relax after a busy day.  Want some?  Get them here.

Summer Sandals from Shusole

1

Though I have an ever-expanding collection of shoes, most of them are black, and most of them just don’t cut it for every day summer wear.  As such, lately I’ve been on the look out for some lighter, and more sunny-weather-appropriate shoes, and the latest addition to my collection is this pair of Ciara Flatform shoes, from online women’s footwear specialists Shusole.

I’ve spotted two big trends on the highstreet this season – pastel brights and platforms – and these beauties tick both boxes.  The sandals fasten at the side with a buckle, and have a strappy design reminiscent of ’90s-style jelly shoes, but with an open toe.  The platform is around 4 inches high, but despite the height they’re incredibly comfortable as the sole is cushioned, and they’re flat so very easy to walk in.

I absolutely love the colour of these shoes.  They’re a gorgeous bright pink that adds a perfect pop of colour to my (mostly) black wardrobe, but the pastel element gives them a dusky hue, rather than an overwhelming fluorescence, which I prefer.  However, if pink isn’t your thing, they’re also available in black, white, green, orange, or yellow.

These sandals are so easy to style too.  I’ve paired them with leggings and a long top for a casual day look, but they also look really cute with a strappy sun dress, a skater skirt, or even skinny jeans!  I’m sure they’ll be featuring in some style posts in the coming months, so keep an eye out.

These Ciara Flatform Shoes cost just £13.49, which for a good quality pair of pretty, versatile sandals is an absolute steal.  And even cheaper than Primark and suchlike too!  Check them out here.

Real Leather Jackets at New Look

1

I was recently approached by New Look with information about their range of real leather jackets, and after seeing what they have to offer I thought it too good not to share! As I’m sure we all know by now, leather is big this season, but a lot of the faux leather and leather look jackets out there at the minute are really rather pricey. New Look, however, are selling a selection of on-trend leather jackets which, for the most part, are really affordable and come in at around the same price as many of the faux leather jackets I’ve seen on the high street.

Buckle Hem Biker Jacket – £69.99 / Faux Fur Collar Jacket – £69.99 / Biker Jacket – £59.99 / Waterfall Jacket – £120.00

There are quite a few real leather jackets available on the site, including a brown version of the Buckle Hem Biker Jacket, but the four above are my personal picks.  As a lifelong Edward Scissorhands fan I have a soft spot buckles and straps, so I love the buckles on the Buckle Hem Biker Jacket, as they add a nice bit of edgy detail to a simple design.  The asymmetrical zips on all four of the jackets are also a highlight for me as they’re edgy, but flattering, and so popular this season; as is faux fur which looks so glamorous when combined with an oversized collar.  The final jacket, the Waterfall, is incredibly pretty and would be perfect for a more sophisticated evening look.  The draping is really feminine, and would look beautiful teamed with a winter maxi.  If only I could have them all!

Which jacket is your favourite?

Purity Organic Skincare Facial Wash and Cleansing Lotion

8

A few weeks ago I started to experience unsightly breakouts on my face, particularly around my jaw line, and nothing I tried seemed to make them go away.  Even the medicated gels that my doctor prescribed did nothing but make my skin feel sore and dry!  So, when I received a set of face care products in the post from Purity Organic Skincare I didn’t expect them to do much for me, but two weeks on my skin has improved more than I could have hoped.

??????????????????????

Purity Organic Skincare are a British brand who focus on using hard-working and sustainably grown ingredients to create gentle but effective skincare products, which are also affordable, using the tagline ‘Less is more in beauty’.  Most of their ingredients are organic, and the brand is officially EcoCert certified, vegetarian and does not support animal testing, so they are all round skin, animal, environment and purse friendly – what more could you ask for?

??????????????????????

The two products that I was sent to review are Purity’s Facial Wash and Conditioning Cleansing Lotion, which both come in Purity’s characteristically simple packaging.  Here are my experiences of both so far…

Facial Wash – 150ml – RRP £4.99

??????????????????????

I use Purity’s Facial Wash every morning whilst in the shower, and it adds a lovely bit of luxury to my morning routine.  The wash contains a mixture of natural ingredients, including sweet almond oil for moisturisation and aloe vera to soothe the skin, and is fragrance free so is suitable for sensitive skin, which is excellent news for me!  I find that the wash has quite an oily consistency, but if you rub a coin sized amount between your hands before use it warms up and develops into a light foam which is enough to cover your whole face, and feels gorgeously silky when massaged into the skin.  Despite the oil, the wash washes off with no trouble and leaves no greasy residue on the skin, and doesn’t go the other way and dry the skin out either.  Rather, it leaves the skin feeling refreshed, clean and incredibly soft.

Conditioning Cleansing Lotion Make-Up Remover – 150ml – RRP £4.99

??????????????????????

Every evening, before I go to bed, I remove my make-up using Purity’s Conditioning Cleansing Lotion.  The cleanser has a creamy texture which acts as a moisturiser and, like the facial wash, has no fragrance.  The main ingredients derive from coconut and avocado oil which cool the skin, and were specifically chosen for their abilities to break down make-up and dirt.  To use, you just need to massage a small amount of the cleanser onto the face and neck before removing it with a clean cotton pad, and believe me when I say it does its job very well!  The cleanser I used to use never fully removed everything from my face, so when applying toner there would still be make-up coming off on the cotton pad, but this gets rid of everything in one go.  The only downside is that it can’t be used to remove eye make-up, so I’ve had to continue using my usual one, but I would switch to Purity straight away if they did launch an eye make-up remover!

Combined, these two products have worked miracles on my problem skin.  I put the breakouts down to the overuse of scented products packed full of harsh chemicals which irritated my skin, and the gentle but effective ingredients in the facial wash and cleansing lotion have sorted that right out.  Though my skin still isn’t perfect, it looks a LOT clearer and feels a lot smoother, which has seriously boosted my confidence.

Purity Organic Skincare’s products are available online and in Superdrug stores across the UK, and are extremely affordable, ranging from £4.99 to £8.99 each.  I really can’t recommend the brand highly enough as their products actually work and have sorted my skin out in no time at all – thank you, Purity!  I am definitely going to be repurchasing both the facial wash and cleanser, and will be investing in the moisturiser too.
